PROJECT TACTICAL PORTAL

SOFTWARE AND PROCESSES FOR SIMPLIFYING
DAY-TO-DAY EXECUTION CONTROL

What is your challenge as you see it?

”As a project manager, my challenge in the area of tactical, day-to-day project management is one of surfing through change waves. By that I mean the simultaneous juggling of issues, scope changes, dependencies and associated action items. We need a “one-stop” shop for not just getting a picture of these tactical aspects, but also a portal for managing the team, their tasks, their issues and time spent, and their realistic granular estimate of pending work. Above all, we need an automated mechanism for reporting on overall project status to the Senior Management, without me having to spend days every week, just to aggregate the qualitative and quantitative status aspects of the project, to report to Senior Management.”

What solutions do you have today?

”Today, we have a combination of home grown and off-the-shelf solutions. And guess what, we rely on emails, phone calls, meetings and discussion threads so much, outside of any system. We still have to jump to three different places, one for collecting all the issues and qualitative aspects of the project, while two other systems for collecting financial and labor aspects of the project. And on top, we need to combine all the three and use yet another home grown solution to combine the three. Yes, the process is semi-manual, but it is not uniform and ingrained across the enterprise.”

What exactly do you need and why is different?

You need a hub or a central point of entry for the capture of milestones, deliverables, issues, scope changes and dependencies and action items all in one place. It should also embed workflow processes for issue management and escalation and routing, scope change capture, routing and approvals, besides timesheet labor tracking processes. You need a powerful workflow engine, one that routes all aspects of tactical management of projects, across cost centers and team members, no matter where they are allocated. At the end of the day, all the information has to be automatically reported on a weekly and monthly basis to
