What is your challenge as you see it?

”Unlike an R&D Investment Portfolio Analyzer, my challenge as an IT Portfolio Analyzer is to monitor and balance the workload, by optimizing the architecture, leveraging the infrastructure and reusing the existing asset and licenses. Today, I do not have a unified IT portfolio that displays my projects as well as applications, against architecture and infrastructure and in-progress work. Every incoming demand needs to be looked at in light of the IT portfolio to fit into our overall strategy, overall IT.”

What solutions do you have today?

”We have a project portfolio management system that displays the current in-progress projects as “folders” of strategy or business process or business units. We can query on stakeholders and other search criteria and take reports. And that leaves us there. For applications portfolio management, we have yet another system that is brand new, and we have to manually match for every application that is going through a major enhancement, against the project portfolio. We end up using individual spreadsheets and assigning weights to demand and in progress projects. Our portfolio system has become just a ranking system.”

What exactly do you need and why is it different?

You need a portfolio analyzer that complements a robust portfolio governance process.
